SPC Flooring Installation in Kenya: Step by Step, and How to Prepare

SPC is a floating click-lock floor: the planks lock to each other, not to the subfloor. That is what makes installation fast and reversible — and it is also why preparation matters more than most people expect.
1. Measure and confirm
We measure room by room, add about 5% for cuts, and confirm the finish and plank direction with you. Planks usually run along the longest wall or towards the main light source.
2. Prepare the subfloor
The subfloor must be clean, dry and level to roughly 3 mm over 2 m. Existing ceramic tiles, terrazzo and sound cement screed are all fine to lay over. Loose tiles get re-fixed, hollow screed gets patched, and badly uneven floors get a self-levelling skim. This is the step cheap installers skip, and it is the step that causes clicking and flexing later.
3. Underlay
An acoustic underlay goes down loose. It absorbs minor imperfections, softens footfall and cuts the drum sound apartments below would otherwise hear.
4. Lay the planks
Planks click at an angle, row by row, with joints staggered so the floor reads naturally. A 8–10 mm expansion gap is left around the whole perimeter and at doorways — SPC moves slightly with temperature, and a floor fitted tight to the wall will lift.
5. Skirting and thresholds
PVC skirting covers the expansion gap and finishes the wall line; thresholds handle transitions to tile in bathrooms and kitchens. Doors are trimmed where the new floor height needs it.
What you should do before we arrive
A little preparation keeps a one-day job a one-day job.

- — Decide early if old skirting is being replaced
- — Arrange lift and gate access with your building management
Preparation, expansion gaps and a proper underlay separate a floor that lasts fifteen years from one that clicks within six months.
